This week, we’d like to help a mum living in emergency housing with her toddler and newborn baby.
Sonia has lived in the UK for most of her life - she moved here with her mum when she was very young. Sonia’s mum passed away and, shortly after, Sonia discovered that her mum hadn’t sorted out her immigration status. So Sonia was left in a difficult situation, with no Visa and no access to public funds.
Her situation will get resolved and she will be able to work again but, in the meantime, life is incredibly tough. She has been living in temporary shared accommodation with her toddler and newborn baby. When the Covid pandemic hit, two men who had been homeless were moved into the shared house with her and her children. Sonia felt uncomfortable and scared and so isolated in their single room as much as possible.
Thankfully, she and the children have just been moved into different accommodation - but there are so many things the children need that she can't provide. One of the professionals working with the family said a little bit of support would significantly improve the well-being of the children. We’d love to help provide it.
