This week the 52 Lives School Kindness Project headed to the beautiful town of Corsham in Wiltshire to visit the children at Heywood Prep School.
Our Director of Kindness, Greig, had a wonderful time chatting to the children about how kindness can affect the world we live in. One of the many things we never get tired of promoting is the fact that when you are kind to someone else, it benefits everyone - even yourself! Kindness has a positive physical affect on our bodies and it is contagious, so when your kind to someone it will encourage them be kind as well.
The children at Heywood Prep encapsulated kindness in every way and jumped at the chance to help a brother and sister from Romania, Andreaa and Bogdan.
Andrea and Bogdan both suffer from a life threatening form of scoliosis. This condition causes the spine to twist, which pushes on their lungs and makes it hard for Andreaa and Bogdan to breathe. Without surgery, this twisting of the spine is likely to lead to death. Fortunately the wonderful global 52 Lives community were on hand to raise the necessary £10,000 to pay for both operations. But as we've seen time and time again at 52 Lives, messages of support go a very long way in helping people deal and overcome whatever challenge they are facing in their lives.
Once the children at Heywood Prep heard Andreaa and Bogdan's story they got to work making cards, gifts and supportive video messages. Some even thoughtfully translated their messages into Romanian, which was incredible to see.
The love and support of children from a school in another country will without doubt give Andreaa and Bogdan a much needed boost in their recovery.
