This week, the 52 Lives School Kindness Project wanted to spread some kindness to an amazing 12 year old girl called Rhianna. Rhianna's younger sister, Carina has a rare disease called tuberous sclerosis complex which has caused severe disability. Rhianna is Carina's hero and spends a lot of time helping to care for her sister, as well as helping around the house. Her Auntie Natalie nominated her for the School Kindness Project and told us she is one of the kindness and loveliest girls you could ever hope to meet. Sadly, despite Rhianna's kind and giving nature she is still the target of bullies at school. As a result she lost her confidence and no longer enjoys going to school.
Rhianna's Auntie Natalie and the incredible children and teachers at Drayton Community Primary School wanted to let Rhianna know just how amazing she is.
After discussing the positive effects of kindness and also the negative effects of bullying and exclusion, we set the children the task doing something kind for Rhianna. Many of the children made beautiful cards, gifts and filmed supportive video messages for Rhianna. Year 6 almost had our Director of Kindness, Greig in tears as they wrote the most beautiful messages on dress-shaped purple card as they had noticed that Rhianna was wearing a purple dress in the photo they were shown.
52 Lives founder Jaime Thurston also sent Rhianna a special Outstanding Kindness Award to acknowledge everything she does for her family, which Rhianna's mum is planning to frame and hang on the wall.
A huge thank you to Drayton Community School for the support and love they have shown Rhianna. I hope they realise what an impact they have had on this amazing little girl's life.
