Each year, 52 Lives helps to buy Christmas presents for people who might otherwise not receive anything. In previous years we have helped to buy gifts for around 300 school children. This year we decided to do more....much more! We expanded our Christmas Project to include a wider range of organisations, including women's refuges and homeless shelters, so we could reach even more people in need. In total, the 52 Lives community bought 1000 gifts for those who would otherwise not receive one.
To help us spread even more joy this Christmas, we enlisted the help of two wonderful schools in Manchester and Witely in the South of England.
Both days were filled with tremendous fun and joy where the children were taught all about the social and physical benefits that kindness brings, including strengthening communities, helping others, strengthening our hearts, slowing ageing, making us happier and making the world a kinder and happier place.
It's easy for us to take what we have for granted - the clothes on our back, food, money and even a roof over our heads. It's extremely important that we all - not just children - practice gratitude for the things we do have, and if we have the ability to help others in any way, then we should do so.
When the children were told about the 52 Lives Christmas project they could not wait to help. The children at both Manley Park and Barrow Hills got to work in making cards, presents, letters, games, decorations and sending their love via supportive video messages. It was an incredible sight to see and once again we were shown that children are so full of compassionate and innovation.
At the end of the workshop we made sure that the children knew how much their positive and kind actions would mean to the people they were helping. Time and time again the people 52 Lives helps tells us that it's not the money or the thing we buy them that means the most - it's the fact that people care.
