This week, we want to help change the life of a 34 year old woman from London called Rebecca.
Rebecca was born with a severe learning disability and has been cared for full-time by her mum, Sue, for her entire life.
Rebecca has the mental age of a young child and her behavior is incredibly challenging. She also has multiple medical issues which mean she is often in pain and unable to communicate very well. She has chronic fibromyalgia, which causes pain all over the body, severe arthritis, a loss of sensation on the left hand side of her body and hearing loss in both ears.
Sue has had very little support from anyone. She had to leave her partner when her children were very young, and so has done everything on her own ever since.
Although Sue has coped on her own for many years, things have become been very tough for her recently. Her son sadly died of a brain tumor, and Rebecca’s health has been deteriorating.
Thankfully, the council has agreed to undertake work to adapt their home to help Sue care for Rebecca, such as door widening and installing a wet room, and Sue has also managed to get her a specialist bed. But Sue will be left to redecorate and carpet the house after the building work is complete. She also needs to buy some adaptions for Rebecca’s new bed (such as a rail and padding).
Sue has had so much to deal with, and we want to do something kind for her. With your help, we would love to be able to redecorate for her after the renovation work is finished, and buy the things she needs for Rebecca's bed.
