This week, we’d like to help a teenage boy called Luke. Luke has autism, ADHD and a global development delay and attends a special school. He lives with his mum and 3 siblings. His mum’s partner was violent, so social services recently got involved and they are now all thankfully safe and living on their own.
It was a tough time for the whole family, made even harder by the lockdown. Luke’s mum was suddenly on her own with no support, home-schooling a child with additional needs, while also caring for her other children.
Then a few weeks ago, there was a leak in their flat which couldn’t be repaired quickly. It ended up flooding a lot of Luke’s things, ruining his mattress, wardrobe and his clothes. Everything is damaged and covered in mould, and he has had to move out of his room – which has been very upsetting and stressful for him. His social workers and Environment Health are involved, but getting it resolved has become a very slow process. Luke’s mum is on a low income and can’t afford to replace his things, the landlord has been threatening them with eviction, and Luke is struggling to cope with all of the changes.
Luke was nominated by a support worker who told us that he is having a very tough time and could do with some kindness.
