#250 Luke

Request: Donations to replace his things / Gifts from a wishlist / Kind messages

This week, we’d like to help a teenage boy called Luke. Luke has autism, ADHD and a global development delay and attends a special school. He lives with his mum and 3 siblings. His mum’s partner was violent, so social services recently got involved and they are now all thankfully safe and living on their own.

It was a tough time for the whole family, made even harder by the lockdown. Luke’s mum was suddenly on her own with no support, home-schooling a child with additional needs, while also caring for her other children.

Then a few weeks ago, there was a leak in their flat which couldn’t be repaired quickly. It ended up flooding a lot of Luke’s things, ruining his mattress, wardrobe and his clothes. Everything is damaged and covered in mould, and he has had to move out of his room – which has been very upsetting and stressful for him. His social workers and Environment Health are involved, but getting it resolved has become a very slow process. Luke’s mum is on a low income and can’t afford to replace his things, the landlord has been threatening them with eviction, and Luke is struggling to cope with all of the changes.

Luke was nominated by a support worker who told us that he is having a very tough time and could do with some kindness.

What We Need

1. Donations: We will use 100% of your donations to help replace Luke's things and anything we raise above what he needs will be used to help his family in other ways. (Please note, we use a company called Charity Checkout to process payments, and they have recently changed their name to Enthuse).

2. Gift from a wishlist: We have set up a wishlist with some things for Luke,  his siblings, and also his mum. To buy a gift, please click the link below. Your gift will be sent directly to them (don't forget to choose us as your chosen charity on Amazon Smile and we'll receive extra donations!)

3. Kind messages: All of the people we help say the same thing - that it's not the things we give them that mean the most, but the kindness. We'd love to send Luke and his family some kind messages to let them know they are not alone. To send a message, please either write it in the form below and we will pass it along (your contact details will not be shared) or you can post it to 52 Lives (Life # 250), PO Box 3154, Reading, RG1 9AT.
