This week, we’d like to help a family from Shropshire in need of help. They were nominated by their family support worker who asked if we could do something to improve their living conditions.
The mum cares for their 4 children and the father is in very poor health and unable to work.
Their 15 year old daughter, who has additional needs and attends a special school, was recently attacked by two large dogs while she was helping to deliver catalogues. She was hospitalised and had to have surgery, and it left her extremely traumatised. She’s been having nightmares and is awaiting counselling.
She shares a single bed with her 9 year old sister, while her little brother (who has asthma) sleeps on a mattress in the floor of his parent's room.
The floor in most of the house is in a very poor state - it’s chipped and bare in places, with concrete showing through. The support worker said the house is very cold and dark. She has managed to help them fix the electrics, leaks, remove mould, and repair some unsafe windows, but there is so much more to do. She said the family has tried hard to make it nicer, but they just don’t have the money to replace flooring or buy curtains, or bigger furniture items they need.
She said: “They are a family that has very little but equally don’t actually expect anything, and are always very grateful for support.”
With your help, we'd love to help to improve their home and provide the children with the things they need.
