This week, we’re trying to help a young mum called Sadie and her 7 month old baby boy, Toby.
When Sadie became pregnant with Toby, she was living with her mum and siblings in a small, overcrowded flat.
Her mum is an alcoholic and was abusive towards Sadie. After her baby was born, it became too dangerous for Sadie to stay there so the council rehoused them.
They are now safe and happy, but they are very much on their own. Her relationship with Toby’s dad ended and she no longer sees her mum.
Sadie’s social worker got in touch to see if we could help her. When she visited Sadie, she noticed that there was no flooring in any of the main living areas – just cold concrete. Toby is trying to crawl, and the bare floors are not suitable at all for a baby, especially in winter.
With your help, we’d like to carpet these areas for them. We’d also like to provide some other things that Toby will need over the coming year, to make life a little bit easier for Sadie.
We asked Sadie if there is anything we could get for her personally, as a Christmas present, but she said she just wanted us to focus on Toby. So we have added some surprise gift cards onto the wishlist, so she can buy herself something she likes.
