This week we’d like to help a 57-year-old man with cancer who has recently lost his possessions. Simon has had multiple cancer diagnoses and has been unable to work for many years. He was diagnosed with cancer for the third time this year and has recently completed radiotherapy treatment, which has left him quite debilitated.
Simon lives with a carer in a basement council flat, but it was flooded with sewage during heavy rains in the summer. He has been struggling financially and sadly had no insurance.
Simon has been housed in temporary accommodation (a small hotel room) for the past few months and is due to move home this week. But he has no cooker, no bed or bedding, and very few clothes.
His support worker said: “He has been incredibly resilient and remarkably gracious throughout all the time I've known him, but he is exhausted. We’ve been trying to find help so we can replace some of his ruined possessions and give him a chance to set up a home again.”
We’d like to provide Simon with the essential things he needs and make him as comfortable as possible so he can focus on his health.
