This week, 52 Lives is helping a very kind woman from Reading, UK, who has recently taken over the care of her 2 year old grandchild.
Her daughter, who has been dealing with some mental health issues, made the very difficult decision that she could no longer care for her son. And so this amazing woman has taken him in and will be his main carer going forward.
She told me that although she knows she wont be able to give him much by way of material things, he will have all the love in the world and she will do her best to give him a stable family home. She is just a truly lovely woman.
She mentioned in passing that the little boy has grown out of all his winter things. She doesn’t have much money, and so has been visiting the charity shops to try to find the right things in his size.
So the request for this week is fairly simple. I would love to be able to give him a new warm coat (size 2-3), some welly boots (size 5-6), a stroller blanket, some gloves and a winter hat. It may sound like a small thing, but sometimes even the smallest of gestures can make a big difference to someone's life.
