This week, we’d like to help a 54 year old man called Samyr, who has been living in his car with his five year old daughter.
Samyr is deaf and also has learning difficulties. He was placed in a special boarding school when he was young and moved back to live with his parents when he was a teenager, where he has stayed ever since.
Samyr is married, but his wife isn't able to live in the UK, so he cares for their daughter on his own. His daughter has an autism diagnosis and her behaviour can be quite challenging. Samyr's dad died earlier this year and, shortly after, relationships broke down and he had to leave his family home. So Samyr and his daughter lived in his car for six days until the local authority stepped in to help.
Samyr is working with children’s services who have helped them find temporary accommodation. They said: “Samyr is trying his best to meet his daughter's needs and is engaging with professionals to create a better life for them now they live alone. But it is proving very difficult for him.”
His social worker has been able to provide very basic items, such as bowls and plates so they can eat, but they have very little else. Samyr and his daughter have been through a terrible time and we’d like to help provide them with the things they need to set up home.
