This week, we’re trying to help a single mum called Audrey and her three young children.
The children are aged 7, 6 and 3 and all have additional needs. One of the children was abused by Audrey's ex-partner and so now they live solely with their mum.
They were nominated by their social worker, who said she’s worried about safety in their home. The carpet is worn and thin and there are large areas that are a trip hazard, especially for one of the children who has very poor muscle tone in his legs. Two of the children also struggle with bladder control, so accidents have happened quite regularly and the carpet has become very stained and there’s a strong smell in the house.
The eldest child is hard to keep safe, as she runs off a lot without warning and has no awareness of danger. Audrey has no support and is feeling helpless and alone.
We’d like to raise funds to replace the carpet in the living areas, put laminate flooring in all of the bedrooms with new rugs, so it’s easier for them to keep clean. We’d also like to buy a pushchair, as well as Christmas presents as a surprise for the children and for their mum.
