This week, we’d like to help a teenage girl called Abi. Her parents struggled with addiction so she has lived with her grandparents for most of her life.
Her nan has arthritis and isn’t able to work anymore. Her grandad, who is 64, is still working but has bouts of depression and sometimes can’t leave the house.
They don’t have much money and Abi feels very isolated. She spends most of her time in her bedroom and school is a struggle for her. She doesn’t have many clothes… just an old school uniform, PJs and a handful of other items, so she never joins in on non-uniform days and doesn’t socialise.
Her social worker has referred her to child mental health services, but she also asked if we could do something kind for her. She said: “Abi has experienced a lot of trauma in her life. She is struggling with her self-confidence and friendship and doesn’t like herself much.”
We’d like to buy Abi some new furniture for her bedroom, voucher for clothes, new school uniform and shoes. We’d also to provide her grandparents with some help with living costs and send them all on a trip to the seaside – something Abi has always wanted to do but never had the chance.
