This week, we’re trying to help an 11 year old boy called Aaron and his family.
Aaron was severely physically and mentally abused by his mum’s boyfriend. His social worker said: “He was quite often too frightened to speak up and tell his mum what abuse he was suffering as he would then watch his mum suffer the same abuse if she tried to protect him. It has left him with significant social and emotional difficulties.”
His mum took Aaron and his little brother and sister and fled to a women's refuge, where they have been living for the past few months.
They have just moved into a council house after collecting all their belongings from their old house – but sadly, a lot of their possessions are ruined. In the time they were in the refuge, their sofa, bedding, clothes and toys were infested with mould. Aaron’s mum has been scrubbing the furniture with bleach and desperately trying to make their belongings useable. But the social worker said much of what they have will need to be thrown away.
Aaron’s mum has high anxiety and feels like she is failing her children. She has no family support and has sometimes even skipped meals to try to provide her children with what they need. We’d love to replace their damaged items and give them all a fresh start.
