This week, we’d like to help a man called Azim and his two children. Azim was a victim of modern slavery and exploitation in his home country.
He was terrified he would be killed but every time he escaped, he was captured and beaten. He finally managed to flee with his children to the UK and was placed in a single room in a hotel with his family for almost a year . The Home Office has granted him a positive initial decision and so he is eligible for a small amount of support while he waits for a final decision.
They have been moved into their own accommodation now, but Azim is struggling. He’s trying to learn English but finding it difficult, so he feels very isolated. He also has PTSD.
Azim was nominated by a support worker, who said the family are all in need of warm winter clothes and shoes, some warm bedding, and, above all, some kindness. His children have had their lives turned upside down and have left everyone they know behind, so we’d also like to buy some Christmas presents for them.
