Last year, we told you about a young boy called Kaleb who was at risk of being excluded from school. His deputy head teacher had gotten in touch to ask if we could help in some way. We found out that he and his 4 siblings had been removed from their mum’s care due to issues of neglect and substance misuse – after police visited the home, it was found to be ‘uninhabitable for human life.’
They were placed in the care of their dad, who lives in a one bedroom flat. The children slept on the floor as there was no room for beds (we offered to buy beds, but an air mattress was all that would fit in the space).
We found out that Kaleb loved football but his family couldn’t afford the fees for him to join his local club. We paid the fees for both him and his brother…it seemed like a small thing, but at the time, his deputy head teacher said it was a turning point for Kaleb… she said “I cannot tell you how much you have changed the path for this young boy."
The reason I'm sharing this story again is they have finally been allocated a bigger house. It's a huge moment for these children and one they have waited for for a very long time. But, as they are moving from a 1 bedroom flat, they don’t have furniture for the children’s bedrooms, a table to eat at, or enough chairs for the living room.
So many of you asked me to let you know if these children ever needed help again - and that time has come! We’d love to help give them the home they have been waiting for.
We’ll use any extra funds to continue paying for clubs for the children too.
