This week, we’d like to help a single mum called Edie and her two children.
Edie has agoraphobia, anxiety and depression. The family has a social worker now, as Edie was struggling to feed and cloth the children properly and they have been sleeping in sleeping bags on the floor.
The social worker said Edie is in an incredibly vulnerable state and is often very tearful when she visits. She said Edie experienced severe trauma as child. She came to the UK as a refugee after living in a war zone. After they arrived, her parents were abusive and so she was placed in the care system.
Edie’s papers were never properly sorted out while she was in care, so for a long time she wasn’t receiving the benefits she would have been eligible for as an adult, and was living in extreme poverty as a result.
Edie and her children are now getting the help they need, but the house is still very bare. Their social worker said: “The children are resilient - and very determined when it comes to their education, but they barely have anything.”
We’d like to help provide what they need.
