This week, we’re trying to help a 17 year old girl called Stacie and her 4 month old baby girl.
Stacie was abused by her stepdad from the age of 3. Her mum ended up finishing the relationship and Stacie was sent to live with her grandma. But Stacie was physically and emotionally abused there as well, and eventually went back to live with her mum.
Stacie’s mum struggled with her mental health, so Stacie had to look after herself and also cared for her younger sister too…washing her school uniforms, walking her to school every day, making her meals etc. She left and went to live with her dad but he drank a lot and it was a chaotic household.
Stacie attempted suicide and, while she was in hospital recovering, her dad told her she wasn’t welcome back at his house. So Stacie went back to live with her mum and look after her little sister, while battling serious mental health problems and self-harming.
When she was 16, Stacie found out she was pregnant. From that moment, her self-harming stopped. She wanted to be the best she could for her baby. The baby’s dad was volatile and abusive and her relationship with her mum continued to deteriorate, so after the baby was born, it became obvious that staying at home wasn’t the best place for Stacie or her baby.
Stacie has a strong team of social workers and health workers around her, who have helped her and her baby with a move into a flat in a supported mother and baby unit. Her social worker said: “Stacie has taken really well to motherhood and her baby is thriving. This unit will provide a safe home, a reliable support network and appropriate parenting advice.”
But the flat Stacie and her baby are moving into is unfurnished and there is a limit to how much social services is able to provide. We’d love to help make it into a proper home for them and give Stacie all the support and kindness she deserves. We need donations to buy furniture and have also set up an Amazon wishlist filled with some smaller things for her and her baby.
