This week, we’re trying to help a woman called Fara and her two children, aged 4 and 6.
Fara’s 6 year old boy is autistic and has been struggling at school. He needs a lot of support from Fara, so she’s only able to work part-time.
Fara was married, but her partner was physically and financially abusive. Her salary went into his bank account as she thought they were saving for a house, but earlier this year she found out the money was gone. When she confronted him, he assaulted her and threw her and the children out of the house.
Fara and the children were put in a Travelodge where they have lived for the past 6 months. There are no cooking facilities, so the little money she had has been spent buying food.
Her son’s support worker said she has watched Fara slowly sink into periods of depression, and that she just needs some kindness and support to help her get back on track.
Fara and the children have just been housed in a 2 bedroom flat, but it’s very bare. Children’s services helped with a cooker, washing machine and fridge, but we’d like to help provide her with the other things they need, plus some Christmas presents for her and the children.
