#466 David

Request: Donations / Gifts / New Home cards

This week, we’d like to help a 19 year old man called David, who has been left with brain damage and left-side weakness after a serious accident.

David is autistic and has learning difficulties. He was living independently until 8 months ago, when a head injury left him with brain damage, impaired speech and mobility problems. The accident is still under investigation, as no-one is 100% sure what happened. He was found having seizures and had to be airlifted to London. They saved his life, but he was paralysed and had to learn to walk again.

Since being released from hospital, he has been living with his mum who cares for him full-time. But he would love to live independently again.

He has just secured a council flat close by, but it has no carpet and there are a lot of things he needs to make it a home.

One of David’s social services team said: “David is deserving of some kindness - he is a young man who should be given the opportunity to return to independent living, which is something that he really wishes to do. It will give him the chance to further develop himself and look towards his future.”

We’d like to help.

What We Did

You donated more than £1500 for David and bought all of the gifts from his wishlist as well. The carpet has been fitted so he's no longer living with bare floors, and he has so many of the things he needs to set up his home and live independently again. Thank you for giving him such a brilliant fresh start.

This is part of a message David's mum sent us...

"Words can never explain how thankful and amazed I am by your kindness & generosity. These last few months have been a struggle, not just for David but for myself too. You have helped where nobody else would....you have made me so relieved. Thanks to all you guys that have been so kind, words will never be enough. x
