This week, we’re trying to help Cathy and her two boys, aged 2 and 15.
Cathy and the boys fled domestic violence. He ex-partner partner was abusive and controlling and there were also issues of neglect. It had a significant impact on the boys, who are still deeply affected by what they went through.
They lived in a refuge for a short time, but her eldest son struggled to settle there and so they had to return to their old property while they wait for an alternative.
Cathy is trying to make a nice home for the boys and repair her relationship with her eldest son, but she needs help. There is a lot of damage to the furniture and no internal doors.
Her social worker said: “I’m so impressed when I visit. Cathy keeps such a tidy home, but it is sparse and much of what she does have needs repair / replacing. The teenage boy’s bed is broken and the youngest needs a bed too. It will help the children’s confidence and sense of wellbeing so much to be able to live in an environment that is not neglected.”
The boys also need a lot of stimulation and Cathy does her best, but she has no support network at all.
We’d like to help provide some things they need for their home, and some activities for the children. Her eldest son loves art, music and boxing and her youngest likes drawing, clay and gymnastics.
