A New Mexico teacher is getting international attention for her generosity. Sonya Romero is a Kindergarten teacher at Lew Wallace Elementary School in Albuquerque. Every three out of four students who attend the school lives in poverty. Romero says some of students spend the night in homeless shelters, others sleep in motels.
“They will tell us most of the time I didn’t eat breakfast this morning,” said Romero.
Romero, a teacher for nearly 20 years, has taken it upon herself to help her students beyond just teaching them. She provides clothes, toothbrushes and food.
